The Manolo moment has been in full effect these past few months, with the master designer’s signature pointy-toe pumps capturing editors and buyers alike. But Blahnik is no slave to trends and passing moments, and in recognition of that fact, he’ll receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at Footwear News‘ 25th annual FN Achievement Awards in New York tonight. Friend Carolina Herrera will present Blahnik with his award at the Museum of Modern Art. He takes the evening’s highest honor, but Blahnik is by no means the only winner tonight. Yang Li counts Helmut Lang as a personal hero and spent three seasons in Antwerp interning for Raf Simons, so neither the monastically severe lines of his debut collection nor a penchant for quoting Jenny Holzer should come as a surprise.

The 22-year-old Central Saint Martins grad is based in London but decided instead to show his namesake collection in a tiny third arrondissement space in Paris. “I just don’t feel connected to London,” he tells Style.com. “Not in a bad way; I mean, I’ve learned everything there.” To be fair, he’s not exactly forsaking home. Li comes to London via Beijing, where he was born, and Perth, Australia, where he grew up—a life itinerary that makes for a genteel and melodic accent.

His laser-focused range recasts masculine and utilitarian standards with sharp lines, all in very traditional, double-faced wool produced in one of the few Italian factories in the world that works with the fabric. His familiar shapes—what he calls “youth codes”—like hoodies, T-shirts, flight jackets, and wide-legged pants, go back to the Holzer truism he cites: “Use what’s dominant in a culture to change it.”

The fashion-and-style scene has its share of celebrity goers-and-comers. But one that we’ve been noticing of late—maybe because, well, we didn’t peg him as the type—is rubbery comedian Jim Carrey. He cut a small but decided swath through fashion week and attended the dinner and after-party for Marchesa’s Spring ‘11 collection. (Here he is above, meeting Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, with husband Harvey Weinstein, as Rachel Zoe looks on.) He then got spotted by the fashion crowd at Tuesday’s Shakira concert at Madison Square Garden. (Several editors,Cheap Giorgio Armani shoes, including Style.com’s beauty editor, were on hand to see the Colombian pop star perform to celebrate the launch of her fragrance—though none were seen to take cell phone video of the performance, as Carrey did.) And last night, Carrey rubbed elbows with the hordes of Brazilian bombshells—Gisele and Fernanda Motta among them—at the after-party for the Brazil Foundation gala at the Boom Boom Room.

What gives? To be honest, we’re not sure. According to IMDB, he’s currently developing a film adaptation of Where’s Waldo?—maybe he’s researching striped clothing. (Two words in that case, Jim: Saint James.) Pet detectives, if you’ve got any more clues, feel free to leave them below.
